Finding Your Tribe: Who Needs Friends When You Have a Trail Running Fam?

Updated: Mar 15, 2023

Let's face it, finding friends is hard, and sometimes it might feel a bit awkward. You have to actually interact with people, remember their names, and do things like "socialize" and "hang out." But who needs all that when you have your hillside homies, your mountain mates...your trail tribe? They're like friends, but better - they share your love of running, understand your obsession with hydration packs, and won't judge you for wearing the same sweaty clothes every day.

Okay, maybe we're exaggerating a little bit (or maybe we're not). But there's no denying the importance of community in trail running. When the Loco Race Series started nine years ago, it was just a few friends helping each other out with a crazy idea. Now, it's grown into a huge tribe of trail runners who support each other, encourage one another, and push each other to reach new limits.

So why is finding your tribe so important? For starters, it makes training and racing so much more fun. You have people to share your triumphs and failures with, to commiserate with when you're sore or tired, and to cheer you on when you need that extra boost and to eat an entire pizza with when everyone else says it's it a bad choice.

And let's be real - who else is going to understand your weird running quirks? Your non-runner friends might look at you like you're crazy for obsessing over the perfect trail shoe, but your trail running crew will nod in understanding and probably offer up their own recommendations.

But it's not just about the fun and games - having a supportive community can also help you grow as a runner. Your tribe can offer advice on everything from training plans to nutrition, and they can push you to try new things and take on new challenges. Maybe you never thought you could tackle a half marathon, 50k or even a 100-miler, but with the encouragement of your trail running family, suddenly anything seems possible.

Of course, finding your tribe isn't always easy. You might have to put yourself out there and join a local running group or sign up for a race and start chatting with your fellow runners (EEK).

But trust us - it's worth it. The Loco Crew knows firsthand the power of finding your tribe and we're grateful every day for all of you in the Loco Family and for the Loco community we've helped build.

So go ahead, embrace your inner trail runner and find your tribe that suits your vibe. Who needs real friends when you have running buddies who understand the joy of a good hill climb? After all, your Ultra Squad, Mountain Misfits, and Trailblazing Buddies will always be there to welcome you with open arms!

Love & Dirt,

The Loco Crew
